Mangaluru: The GPL Utsav – 2022 organised by Puzzolana Kodial Sports Association came to a colourful end at Sahyadri Engineering College Grounds on Sunday, Feb 27.
At the Utsav that was held for three days, the cricket series that had 16 teams participate from all over the country was inaugurated by BJP State President and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, and Belthangady MLA Hareesh Poonja and other dignitaries took part in the event.
For the first time ever, a helicopter ride was introduced that gave a first time opportunity for many Mangaloreans to have a panoramic view of the City from the skies above. The ride was organised by Mangalpady Naresh Shenoy and his team. A helipad was set up at the college ground outside the main college premises. Not only this, various boat rides for family and speed boat for all added to the variety of this event. An adventurous water game, the fly-board was introduced for the first time. Children enjoyed sky-high and other games at the kids’ zone. The GPL Utsav gave women an opportunity to exhibit their talents through various competitions such as Mehandi, Rangoli, Kottige (idli) preparation, cooking contest and other artworks.
Padma Shri Mohandas Pai was awarded the Man of the Year award in this year’s GPL Utsav.
Parking slots were arranged at five places at Sahyadri College Grounds. The neat arrangement avoided traffic jams and confusion at the entry and exit
The main attraction of this year’s GPL Utsav was the GPL food court. A variety of food items were prepared for visitors. Over 50,000 people enjoyed the food for three days morning to midnight. A sale was arranged of home products this year too wherein many small business units sold their products.
