Mangaluru: In a novel initiative to help the scores of people of Chennai, who have been deprived of drinking water, food and basic amenities owing to the flood, ICYM Mangaluru Diocese launched a campaign called ‘Mission 25K’ in order to provide drinking water to the victims.
The objective of the campaign was to collect pure drinking water bottles of 1 litre. The campaign collected more than 21 thousand liters of water bottles comprising of 1, 2 and 5 liters.
ICYM Central Council President Alwyn Agar speaking to News Karnataka said “We announced the campaign on Dec 5, with an aim of collecting at least 25 thousand water bottles, and within three days we got an overwhelming response from across the diocese, even though we were confronted with the DC’s order to not to collect fund or send relief materials to Chennai. But we, along with our organization and well wishers have taken legal permission from the concerned authorities and have made arrangements to reach the flood victims. We have succeeded in collecting 21 thousand liters which will reach the victims through Caritas India” and added that ICYM is ready to help if more aid is required.
The water bottles have already been dispatched by ICYM Mangaluru Diocese and will be reaching Chennai tomorrow evening. Once received, Caritas India will be distributing these water bottles to the flood victims.
