In a country with a growing workforce that includes an increasing number of women, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act (POSH) 2013 provides a legal framework to ensure the safety of women in the workplace.
To create awareness among members, the Mangalore/Udupi chapter of ISTD organized a training session by Ms Madhujit Singh, Founder and CEO of Ananya-Women@Work, a boutique consulting firm. Her corporate and entrepreneurial experience covers 26 years, the last six being dedicated to diversity and inclusion with a specific focus on supporting organizations in improving their gender diversity ratio. With a Masters in Business Administration, she continues to learn new skills, attending a workshop on ‘Communication Skills for Men and Women in the Workplace’, at IIM Ahmedabad and ‘Navigating Everyday Bias’ with social justice advocate, Howard Ross, in the US.
In addition to POSH, her workshops include topics such as Unconscious Bias, Women Leadership, Behavioral Change Management, Emotional Intelligence, and Self-Awareness for Leadership.
She believes each one of us has unique capabilities and leadership is all about tapping into those capabilities and celebrating them.
Ms Singh talked about the key obligations of organizations, the definition of the workplace, what constitutes disrespectful behaviour, the constitution of an Internal Committee, and stressed that “It is the impact and not the intent that matters.” The 90-minute session was highly interactive and informative including a quiz and a short video that prompted both questions and the sharing of practical experiences.
Chairperson Nivedita Mirajkar welcomed the members and guests and Treasurer, Dr Balachandra Achar introduced the speaker. The program was compered by Secretary, Preetham Kamath and Dr Lakshmi Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
