Mangaluru: Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty said that the protests organised by Christians against the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill will strengthen the hands of religious conversion organisations.

He said that religious conversion is an evil thing. “As a result, many families have become miserable as they have been refused access to government services. The State legislature enacted this law in order to browbeat religious conversion organisations by extending lures. Without realising it, the Christian community played into their hands by organising a protest that will support groups that promote religious conversions. The Christian community will also suffer as a result of these groups,” said the MLA.

Shetty went on to say that the government had taken the initiative to regulate such organisations by amending existing law. He asked Christians to join hands with the government rather than staging protests.

He further said that the government will make use of the act’s provisions without being deterred by lures or protests.
