Kalladka: Communally sensitive Kalladka area turned tense after clashes erupted in the region on Monday evening, owing to minor reason.

In the commotion one person has been severely injured while six others have suffered minor injuries. Several vehicles have been damaged.

Despite the situation being brought under control due to timely intervention of the cops, the locals fear that the incident will snowball into a communal clash.

The commercial establishments in Kalladka pulled down the shutters as precautionary measure. Additional police forces have been pressed into action.

Background

The Kalladka area has been witnessing severe traffic blocks owing to ongoing repair works on NH-75. On Monday, the situation sparked off fights between a few traveling in a pick-up van when their van stuck in the block knocked a vehicle parked behind it and also rubbed aside a car of a local businessman identified as Sunil Shetty.

When Shetty’s companion rolled down the glass of the car and questioned the people in the pick-up van about the damage done to the car, the latter picked up a quarrel with them. When Shetty’s son Siddhanth Shetty intervened, the gang from the pick-up van hurled abuses at them and then snatched away his chain and fled the scene.

The same gang then went on to damage the front glass of an Alto car due to which two persons identified as Umesh and Ganesh, who were plying in the car suffered injuries.

The locals who witnessed the commotion created by the gang, held them and thrashed them up. As a repercussion to this, another gang ended up hurling soda bottles at a bus, due to which Krishna Bhat, 65, residents of Mysuru suffered severe injuries on the face. He was rushed to B C Road for treatment by the alert bus driver, conductor and co-passengers. He was then taken to Mangaluru Hospital for advanced treatment.

Cases have been registered.
