Karnataka 2nd best in Class XII exam

Bangalore : The state witnessed the second highest pass percentage in the Chennai Region in Class XII examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the results for which were declared on Monday.

XII exam28may13 1The state recorded a passing ratio of 97.43 per cent, next only to Goa, which saw 98.87 pass percentage.

In Karnataka, 6,544 students had appeared for the examination. Of them, 6,376 cleared the examination. Among those who passed were 3,602 boys and 2,774 girls. Pass percentage among girls (97.78 per cent) was higher than that of the boys (97.17 per cent).
The highest number of candidates was from Kerala (36,833). Of them, 92.90 per cent passed this year. The lowest number of students (37) appeared from Lakshadweep, which saw around 64.86 per cent of them pass.

In the Southern region, 77,616 candidates registered for the examination, out of whom 71,271 cleared it. The overall passing ratio among boys in the region is 90.07 per cent, and that among girls is 93.92. Combining both, around 91.83 per cent of all those who appeared from the Chennai Region of CBSE for the exam cleared it.

Cent per cent results

Many schools in Bangalore, including the National Public School at HSR Layout, National Hill View Public School and Oxford Senior Secondary School, have seen 100 per cent results, with most of their students securing distinction.

Kendriya Vidyalayas in the city recorded better results this year than the last. “Last year only two Kendriya Vidyalayas in the city got cent per cent results. This time, five of them  managed to do it,” said Kendriya Vidyalaya DRDO Principal Shil Balasingh. Her school secured a 99.14 passing percentage last year, compared to a perfect score this year.
While the number of students with 90 per cent and above was 19 last time in this school, this year it shot up to 31.

“We coached them rigorously. What also helped was individual counselling with parents and students from time to time, helping them identify the areas they needed to work on,” she added.

Among the highest scorers in the city in the science stream was Sowmya S, a student of NPS Indiranagar, who secured 98.2 per cent (491 out of the total 500). Souwmya told Deccan Herald that she was thrilled with her results.

She did not base her studies on the number of hours but had daily goals of completing selected topics.

“I trained myself to be very fast in solving problems. I would balance my study hours by studying an easy topic in the morning and a tough one in the evening,” said the student who aims to pursue engineering in either computer science or electronics and communication. She has also kept her options open for a degree in pure sciences.

Ayushi Agarwal, a student of Delhi Public School (North), who had opted for commerce, achieved a high score of 96.6 per cent. She wishes to take up chartered accountancy. She put in a consistent six hours of study every day, besides keeping alive a passion for dancing.

The arts topper in the city aspires to be a psychologist. Yashika Hooda, a student of Army School, secured 96.2 per cent. She even has pinpointed a college where she chooses to fulfil her aspirations.

Yashika managed the score without attending any external tuition classes, and made use of what was taught in the classroom.

“I am very glad. Im on top of the world. I was expecting around 90 per cent, but this came as a surprise to me,” said the elated student.
