Mangaluru: The family members of Abubakker Siddique, who was arrested by the Mangaluru Rural Police on December 7 on charges of an assault case in Ulaibettu have claimed that Siddique is innocent and has been falsely implicated by the police as a part of a ‘conspiracy’.
They said that they are contemplating to file a criminal and a defamation case against the police in connection to the same.
It may be recalled that Siddique was arrested on December 5 by Mangaluru Rural Police Station Circle Inspector Pramodh. Close on the heels of the arrest Pramodh was sent on leave and the rumours of his suspension spread resulting in protests from policemen as well as various organisations.
The pressure of the protests yielded results and Pramodh joined duty soon. It was said that Siddique’s political clout resulted in the suspension of the CI.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday December 15, Siddique’s uncle Mohammed Shariq said that Siddique was arrested for raising his voice against the arrest of two innocent youth from the vicinity.
He said that two youth named Mohommed Iqbal and Shahid were called to Mangaluru Rural police station on October 25, 2015. Not only cases were slammed against them in connection to Ulaibettu case of Dec 5, 2014, but they were even tortured in police custody.
With regard to the assault case filed against Abubakker by a girl, Shariq said that the name of the accused in the assault case was one Abubakker, son of Usman. The Abubakker in question here is not the son of Usman. However, Shariq was of the opinion that the prior Abubakker too was innocent.
The family said that when they met Circle Inspector Pramodh on Monday urging him to release Abubakker, the CI is alleged to have told the family members to bring one Ansar, following which Abubakker would be set free.
