KMC Hospital Mangalore to host Women on Walk (WoW) for Heart Health

Mangalore: In observance of World Heart Day on September 29, aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, KMC Hospital at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle is organizing a series of educational and activity-based events throughout September. The month-long campaign aims to inform the public about heart-related illnesses, their causes, symptoms, and risks while promoting healthier heart practices.

Dr. Narasimha Pai, HOD-Cardiology at KMC Hospital, highlighted the global impact of cardiovascular diseases, emphasizing that heart disease is not just a “man’s problem.” Recent data reveals that women in India are also at significant risk, making it essential to prioritize women’s heart health.

As part of the campaign, KMC Hospital will host a 2 km Women On Walk (WoW) for Heart Health on Sunday, September 17, 2023, starting at 6 AM. The walkathon, from KMC Hospital, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle to Marena Sports Complex, Kaprigudda, Attavar, aims to raise awareness about women’s heart health, which often goes neglected. Participants can register via WhatsApp at 9008167071, and the dress code is red. Transportation will be arranged for the participants’ return.

 
Dr. Padamanabha Kamath, Senior Cardiologist at KMC Hospital, stressed the importance of preventive measures to combat heart diseases. KMC Hospital is offering a Heart Health check package at a concessional rate of Rs. 777, which includes various tests and a specialist consultation, valid until September 30, 2023. Dr. Harish Raghavan, Senior Heart Surgeon at KMC Hospital, mentioned previous awareness initiatives such as CPR activities, drawing competitions, and outreach programs.

Dr. Madhav Kamath, Senior Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon at KMC Hospital, highlighted the need to debunk the myth that heart attacks only affect those over 50, emphasizing the importance of recognizing signs, even among the youth.

Dr. Maneesh Rai, Cardiac Electrophysiologist at KMC Hospital, announced a partnership with Red FM for “HEARTBEAT,” a heart health quiz program, running for five weeks with weekly winners.
