The Konkan Vikas Samiti, responsible for the welfare of Mumbai railway passengers, has raised strong objections to the proposal of extending train number 22229/22230, Vande Bharat Express, which currently operates between Mumbai and Madgaon, to Mangaluru. Additionally, the Samiti opposes the idea of connecting train 20645/20646 Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express to the Mumbai-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express.
In a press release, the Konkan Vikas Samiti expressed concerns, stating, “The Mumbai-Madgaon train is operating at full capacity, requiring 16 additional bogies to meet passenger demand. However, extending this train to Mangaluru would result in a shortage of seats for passengers traveling on the Mumbai-Ratnagiri and Sindhudurga-Goa routes. Instead, the Samiti suggests extending the Mangaluru-Madgaon 20645/20646 train to Mumbai as a separate entity, reducing passenger congestion and enhancing connectivity between Mangaluru and Mumbai.”
The release further proposed the inclusion of stoppages for the Mumbai-Madgaon train at stations where there is currently no halt, providing convenience to passengers in those areas. Additionally, the Samiti sees an opportunity to introduce Amrit Bharat or Vande Bharat sleeper coaches between Mangaluru and Mumbai.
