Leaders cast their votes as voting gets underway

Bantwal: Polls for Zilla and Taluk Panchayat seats having begun in the taluk, about 24 per cent polling has been registered by 10 am.

Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, casted his vote at Todambila Church School here. Former MLA and BJP Zilla Panchayat candidate from Sajipamunnooru constituency Padmanabh Kottari voted at Goltamajalu Panchayat booth. Kolnadu taluk panchayat constituency candidate from the BJP Mohammed Mustafa, registered his vote at Kalladka Higher Primary school.

Congress candidate from Sajipamunnooru Chandraprakash Shetty casted his vote in Thumbay school. BJP candidate Ravindra Kambali, Pudu Congress zilla panchayat candidate Ummar Farooq and SDPI candidate Raiyaz Farangipete registered their votes in Nandavara High School and Pudu gram panchayat booths respectively.

Later talking to reporters, Ramanath Rai said that all the MLAs in the district got into a healthy competition in a bid to get funds from the State and developed their constituencies. The public will certainly take note of this and elect the Congress.

Taking potshots at the BJP he said that the BJP members, who are on the brink of a defeat, have been alleging the Congess of irregularities adding that such tactic is not going to work.

Rai further said that most of the constituencies in the current polls will be swept away by the Congress.

Padmanabh Kottari speaking in Kalladka said that the developmental works by the BJP in Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat and the union government will give a certain edge to the BJP over the Congress. Also, the public will look now upon the BJP due to the State government’s failure, he added.

Voting in the district is held for 136 taluk panchayat and 36 zilla panchayat constituencies.
