In response to complaints regarding the influence of middlemen and delayed file clearances at the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) office, Lokayukta sleuths conducted a raid on Friday.

Led by Lokayukta SP CA Simon, the raid unearthed unaccounted money and numerous pending files during the 18-hour operation, which commenced on March 13. Concerns had been raised about middlemen meddling in Muda affairs, leading to inefficiencies in public service.

Cash was discovered both within the Muda office premises and in possession of officials and others, with no clear explanation provided for its source. Additionally, complaints of harassment at the urban development authority surfaced from individuals present during the raid.

Evidence was gathered indicating Muda officials engaging in file disposal procedures through intermediaries over phone calls. The investigation into the Muda network is set to persist, as authorities aim to address issues of corruption and malpractice within the organization.
