Mangaluru: Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar said, “We have made it clear that no one should force others to close their businesses. Since 4.00 am, police have been deployed in high-risk areas throughout the City.”

Speaking to mediapersons on Thursday March 17 when he was undertaking City rounds to maintain law and order, Shashi Kumar said, “Incidents of forced business closures or traffic jams have not been reported under the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction. A few business owners have willingly shut their shops. A few vehicles have also come to halt. The rest of public life is normal, except for a few commercial establishments and vehicles.”

Further he said, “Pro-Muslim organisations had called for a bandh throughout the State against the verdict on Hijab given by the High Court. A few political parties, as well as a few organisations, supported the call for a bandh.”

Following Muslim organisations’ call for a bandh in response to the High Court’s verdict on the hijab, several Muslim-owned businesses in the City remained closed.
