Mangalore University has garnered recognition from the Department of Higher Education as the leading institution among state universities in implementing E-Governance practices. This acknowledgment comes alongside a grant of Rs 50 lakh aimed at further bolstering the university’s technological initiatives.

The recognition underscores Mangalore University’s commitment to harnessing technology for efficient governance. It reflects the institution’s ongoing efforts to streamline processes and enhance administrative efficiency through digitalization, including the transition towards a ‘Paper-Free Office’, which was initiated prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and further developed in its aftermath.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, PS Yadapadithaya, underscored the university’s vision of transforming its administrative office and main campus into paperless environments. Meanwhile, Jayaraj Amin, former in-charge Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the collaborative endeavor across the campus to establish Mangalore University as an e-governance institution.

Amin elaborated on the evaluation process conducted by a special committee from the Department of Higher Education, which assessed 10 parameters and awarded Mangalore University 73 points for its e-governance initiatives. He emphasized the positive impact of e-governance implementation, citing increased transparency and the ease of tracking file progress with a simple click.

It was revealed that comprehensive staff training on e-governance was conducted in phases, ensuring every department had the requisite internet connectivity and desktop or laptop facilities. Currently, all departments are equipped with these facilities.

Efforts such as the establishment of a language lab and a shift towards digital communication have significantly reduced the use of paper on campus, promoting a paperless office environment. Although Mangalore University faced server issues a few months ago, impacting the initiative temporarily, the institution remains committed to the promotion and encouragement of paperless offices on campus.
