Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Ravikumar M. R. said that for the past 10 years, the names of the deceased were not removed from the voters’ list in the District.

Speaking at a press conference he said that 21,537 names of the deceased have already been cleared. While 29,410 names were added to the electoral rolls after the final electoral rolls were revised in 2022, 73,783 names were removed during that period. Of these, 21,537 names were cancelled due to death, 30,580 due to their displacement and 21,666 names were cancelled because their names or photos were the same.

There was also a demand from political parties to remove the remaining names from the voters’ list due to non-submission of death certificate documents. Similarly, if the families of the deceased do not give the certificate at the city level and in rural areas, the officials themselves will download it and attach it and get the name cancelled, he said.
