Mangaluru: The State Government has transferred the case of attempted assault on Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The complaint registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station in this regard will be immediately transferred to the CID, informed the State Police DGP’s office.
The documents with the Investigating Officer and DK District Superintendent of Police should be handed over to the CID investigative office, read the order.
The alleged incident happened when MLA Harish Poonja was heading from the Mangaluru Airport to Belthangady on October 13.
According to the complaint made by the MLA’s driver, Naveen, a few miscreants blocked Poonja’s official vehicle, brandishing swords, and tried to assault the MLA. The MLA’s official vehicle was followed them, but fortunately, Harish Poonja was travelling in his relative’s car, read the complaint.
Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Bhagwan Sonawane said the police arrested Riyaz (38) and seized the Scorpio car allegedly used in the assault.
