Mangaluru: In the last four-and-a-half years, the development of basic amenities in Belthangady Taluk has set an example for others.

The most important of which is the widening and renovation of the State Highways. The State and National Highway connecting Belthangady are now at a time of rapid development.

In the past, road connectivity to Belthangady, which connects the District and the State’s major tourism and religious shrines, was a major challenge. But the current situation has changed.

Development Of State Highways and National Highways along with rural roads is gaining momentum.

The roads from Moodabidri to Guruvayanakere to reach Subrahmanya, Shiradi and Charmadi along with Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala via Karkala were very curved and narrow. Realising that many accidents take place, MLA Harish Poonja gave priority to the development of tourism and sanctioned Rs. 37 Crore for the road from Guruvayanakere to Venoor, Moodabidri and Karkala under the State Highway Development Works Project under the Public Works Department. He succeeded in bringing in the grants for the same.

A sum of Rs 15 Crore has been sanctioned from Shakthinagara to Gardadi Nandi Hills for the road connecting Venoor under the State Highway development works. The 5-km /-road has been widened and beautifully developed under the grant. The road which was earlier 5 and a half metres wide has been extended to 7 metres.

The District’s first solar lamp, and the development of road 1.6 km long from Garadi to Nandibetta have been done. The road has been widened into a four-lane road and a divider has been created in the middle. Mostly the dividers are burdened with the responsibility of maintenance by constructing electric lights. However, for the first time in Dakshina Kannada District, 55 solar street lights with two high masts have been installed to reduce the power load. This will result in a minimum of Rs 80 to Rs 1 lakh per month. The Public Works Department (PWD) authorities said that the electricity bill amount will be saved. The work was carried out by J. D. Suvarna Contractors’ and initially there were a lot of objections from the public about the design of the road. Finally, the road construction work has been completed and the public seems to be happy.
