Mangaluru: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed anger over the provision of beef stalls in the new Central Market Project in Mangaluru under the Smart City Project. The VHP leaders have threatened to launch a fierce struggle if the project is not dropped within a day.

“There is a BJP Government in the State. The BJP is in power in Mangaluru City Corporation as well. There is also a ban on cow slaughter in the State, they noted and thereby the VHP leaders, however, have threatened to launch a fierce fight if the project is not dropped.

Under the Smart City Project, beef stalls have been allowed in the new Central Market Project in Mangaluru. A blueprint for the construction of 9 beef stalls has been prepared and a new Central Market is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 114 Crore.

A 9-beaf stall will open on the lower ground floor of The Central Market. At present, the 3D map of the market in front of the Smart City Board mentions nine beef stalls.

The new Central Market building, to be constructed in 18 months, is the new market to be built in a public-private partnership mode. After the construction of the building, the Mangaluru City Corporation will hold an auction of the stalls and The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has lashed out at the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for allowing beef stalls in the proposed project.

Beef stalls have been allowed along with vegetable and poultry shops. The bjp’s decision to allow beef stalls even after the anti-cow slaughter law has drawn the ire of pro-Hindu organisations.
