Mangaluru: There are indications that the Central Government is abandoning the much-awaited Shiradi Ghat subway highway project, which has been in the pipeline for over a decade now.
The Centre is of the view that the project requires a large amount of money and not feasible as it is fraught with many challenges. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari made this clear in his reply to an unstarred question by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in the Lok Sabha on Thursday December 8. Gadkari, who was in Mangaluru in February for the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of various projects, had said that the 6-lane Shirdi Ghat tunnel project would be taken up soon for which a Rs 14,000-crore project was ready.
