Mangaluru: Discarded chemicals kept in drums at a scrap dealer’s yard caught fire on Thursday November 24 at Katla Cross here.
According to sources, locals who saw the fire came out of their houses and started putting out the flames. The residents of the area were inconvenienced by the smoke and soot from the fire that spread to neighbouring houses and apartments.
The scrap yard is reportedly located in the centre of a residential area. It handles both chemicals and yard debris. The locals claimed that although concerns and objections to the operation were made to the MCC officials, no action had been taken as of yet.
The residents requested the City Corporation to immediately order the relocation of this yard to protect their health and safety.
