Mangaluru: DC instructs to take care of workers’ safety

Mangaluru: With the onset of summer, the heat is on the rise and the safety of the workers needs to be taken care of. In this regard, it is the foremost duty of all employers, and contractors to provide necessary facilities to all categories of workers in Dakshina Kannada District for the safety of workers at the workplace, taking care of the health of the workers, availability of clean drinking water and food and other necessary facilities, he noted.

Deputy Commissioner has instructed to provide the following necessary facilities to all types of workers in Dakshina Kannada District, especially those engaged in construction works, workers working in factories, commercial establishments and hotel-related establishments. That includes to take necessary precautionary measures regarding the safety of workers at workplaces without fail and to provide the necessary safety materials to the workers without fail, (shoes, helmets, gloves, etc.), to carry out a health check-up system for workers at the workplace as and when required. Mandatory provision of first aid facilities at workplace, to provide clean drinking water and food facilities to the workers, to provide necessary shade facilities to the workers working in the sun, to take necessary safety measures for elderly elderly workers and women workers, especially pregnant women/lactating mothers, to undertake necessary childcare at the workplace for young children of the worker, to ensure that the workers who have come to Dakshina Kannada District from Inter-District and Inter-State work get the necessary basic amenities in the temporary workers’ sheds provided by the owners, contractors/operators of construction works, (drinking water, toilets, housing), and to provide minimum wages, timely payment of wages, statutory deductions (ESI, PE) and other benefits to the workers under various labour laws shall be provided to the workers under the Labour Acts without fail.

Deputy Commissioner has directed the concerned to take steps to ensure that all these facilities are made available to all the workers in Dakshina Kannada District.
