Mangaluru: Congress Leader and Former MLA urged the Dakshina Kannada District to be declared as flood-hit region.
Speaking to mediapersons on Monday July 11, he said that the District has been badly affected by the rains and hence it has to be declared as flood hit region and people who have suffered losses due to rains need to be provided appropriate compensation. He informed that as many as 425 houses were partially damaged, and 56 completely damaged. Rs. 10000 as compensation is not enough, hike the compensation amount, he demanded.
Further, Ivan, who is also the General Secretary of the Programme Organising Committee that has planned Siddaramaiah’s birthday celebrations, said Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is the best leader the State has ever seen, and is an advocate of social justice. The programme has been organised in Davanagere on August 3 to remind the people about his service to the State. A lot of preparation is going on in this regard. Party leaders including Former President of AIl India Congress Committee Rahul Gandhi will participate in this programme. As many as 10 lakh people are expected to participate, said D’Souza.
Congress Members Bhaskar Rao, Sabita Misquith, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Chittaranjan Shetty Bondala, District Congress Office-bearer Prakash Shetty and others were present.
