Mangaluru: The unveiling of statue of Architect of the Constitution, Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar statue will be held at Mangalore University on Tuesday December 6, the 66th Mahaparinirvana Diwas of Ambedkar. The statue will be unveiled by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, who is also the Chancellor of Mangalore University.
Addressing a press conference at the City Press Club here on Monday December 5, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya said, Mangalore University’s long-cherished dream was the unveiling of Ambedkar’s statue through the Ambedkar Study Centre on his 66th Mahaparinirvana Diwas. The event will be held at Mangala Auditorium on campus. The meeting will be presided over by the Governor, Mahatma Gandhi University of Horticulture and Forestry, Durg, Chhattisgarh Vice-Chancellor and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Social Sciences, Maho Founder-Chancellor Prof. R. S. Kureel will be the Chief Guest. He will speak about Parinirvana Diwas. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya will be present.
It is proposed to unveil a statue of Swami Vivekananda on the university premises on January 12, 2023, through the Swami Vivekananda Study Centre of the University. The university’s cultural policy will be released next February. The information about the policy will be shared on the university’s website in a couple of days. The public can share their opinion.
Mangalore University Registrar Dr. C. K. Kishore Kumar, Mangalore University Director, Centre for Ambedkar Studies Prof. Vishwanath, and Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism M. P. Umesh Chandra was present.
