Mangaluru: “While a case has been registered under the UAPA in connection with the murder of Hindu activist Praveen Nettaru in Dakshina Kannada, the murder case of Masood and Fazil has been ignored. The investigation has not been handed over to the NIA. We have decided to convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi about this,” said representatives of Surathkal Zone Muslim Unity Forum said. It has been decided to hold a protest at Surathkal junction on September 9 at 3.00 pm in association with like-minded organisations against the Government’s double standards.

Umar Farooq, Legal Advisor of Surathkal Zone Muslim Unity Forum, appealed to the District Administration to give an opportunity to give an appeal to the Prime Minister, who is scheduled to visit Mangaluru on September 2, to make a representation in this regard as the State Government had shown discrimination as far as killing of Fazil in Surathkal is concerned.

The overnment has given compensation to the family of Praveen Nettaru who was killed. But Masood and Fazil’s family were not given compensation. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the Home Minister had promised to visit the house of Masood and Fazil, but they did injustice by not fulfilling it,” he said at a press conference.

While a case under the UAPA has been registered in connection with Praveen’s murder, the murder case of Masood and Fazil has been ignored. The investigation has also not been handed over to the NIA. We have decided to convince the Prime Minister about this,” he said.

Though the police are aware of the fact behind Fazil’s murder, political interference has hampered the investigation, he alleged and added that Fazil’s father Farooq alleged that the investigation had gone completely astray.

Apart from the arrest of the accused on the basis of CCTV footage, no other investigation has been conducted. The mastermind of the incident has not been disclosed. The statement of the witnesses has also not been taken. If the mastermind is let loose, there is a danger ahead. He demanded an impartial probe and legal action against the real culprits.

Aikyatha Vedike President Mohammed Ashraf Badriya, Vice-President Abdul Jaleel Addu, Secretary K. Sharief, Hasanabba Bala and Aboobacker Kulai were present at the press meet.
