Mangaluru: A middle-aged man who allegedly sexually harassed a student on the bus at Uppinangady on Saturday November 19 was caught by bus workers and passengers, who then handed him over to the police.

The accused, identified as Ashraf (45), is a Perne resident. He is accused of sexually harassing a girl at Nelyadi who boarded a KSRTC bus moving from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. He allegedly groped the girl and forced her into an advanced sexual act on the moving bus.

The accused tries to escape the scene after the girl raised an alarm. He was caught by the other passengers and bus staff, who then turned him over to the police.

The victim refused to file a complaint out of concern that she would have to miss class, informed the police. However, a case has been filed against Ashraf for misbehaviour in public. According to sources, the accused is married with kids and a lorry driver.
