Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Customs officers at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) seized gold arriving from Dubai in two different cases on Monday September 5 and Tuesday September 6.
The Customs officers intercepted three male passengers arriving from Dubai at the MIA who tried to smuggle gold in the form of paste hidden in four black coloured packets hidden in two pairs of sandals and gold in the form of very thin paste concealed inside the passenger’s double-layered vest (Baniyan) on Monday. After extraction, three rectangular gold bars weighing 897 gms and worth Rs. 45,65,730 were seized. Further investigation is on.
On Tuesday, September 6, MIA customs officers seized a male passenger, hailing from Kasaragod, travelling from Dubai on Air India flight IX 384. The 190.250 gms of 24-karat gold valued at Rs. 9,74,080 were seized from the passenger. His checked-in carton box was wrapped around the gold, which was concealed as a powder pasted with solid gum between two layers of paper sheets and separated by carbon sheets.
