Mangaluru: Heavy rains lashed parts of Belthangady taluk on Friday evening with hailstorm and gusty winds. Ujire, Mundaje, Dharmasthala, Kokkada, Layila, Naravi, Belthangady, Charmadi and many other places received good rainfall.
On Thursday midnight, rain was predicted and there was a drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms. It started raining with wind on Friday and it rained to the extent that water flowed into the roads and drains.
Due to the summer heat, the ground water had dried up and the farmers were left without water in the borewell. The weather has cooled down after half an hour of rain. There was hailstorm in most places.
The lightning damaged electrical equipment in many houses. As the rains began, power supply in rural areas was cut off.
More than 25 electricity poles were damaged in Ujire and Mundaje due to the strong winds accompanied by rain. Also, the wooden planks on the power line have broken and the power supply has been disrupted.
Around 1,000 nendra banana saplings of Biju Thomas near Gajanthodi in Kadirudyavara village were damaged in the heavy winds accompanied by rain on Friday evening.
