Mangaluru: District In-Charge Minister Sunil Kumar said that he has held discussions with the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai regarding declaring the historic Karinjeshwara Temple as a sensitive zone and the Government will take a decision after the Deputy Commissioner’s report.

He was speaking to mediapersons after visiting the Karinjeshwara Temple along with Bantwala MLA Rajesh Naik.

“The local MLA had brought this to my notice as there was a threat to its presence and safety due to illegal quarrying. In this context, a number of rounds of talks have already been held and a decision has been taken to declare the place a sensitive area,” he said.

He said steps would be taken to make Karinja a religious centre of sanctity and develop it into a tourist destination through the Tourism Department.

It can be recalled that Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik had repeatedly brought to Minister’s notice the development of Karinja Constituency, including curbing mining.

“We have discussed the matter with the chief minister,” Sunil Kumar added.
