Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Jayananda Anchan has appealed to the public to cooperate with the City Corporation (MCC) to solve the problem of waste disposal in the City due to protests by outsourced employees.

Addressing a press conference at his Office here on Friday March 24 he said that the waste disposal system in the City has deteriorated of the last 10 days. So far, the people of Mangaluru City Corporation limits have tolerated the problem. Now efforts are being made to solve the problem using permanent pourakarmikas. He requested the public to join hands with the Corporation to solve the problem.

“Efforts are on to convince the protesting staff. Since there is a problem across the State, the Government has to take an appropriate decision to fulfill their demands,” he said.

Four sewage treatment plant (STP) and 22 wet wells have been constructed in the City and Municipal vehicles have been tendered through e-tender for day-to-day maintenance of sewerage connection. It is the responsibility of the contractor to manage the maintenance. But they have failed.

14 wet wells have been entrusted to
Mangalore Special Economic Zone Limited (MSEZL) for utilisation of water from sewage wet wells and MSEZ for complete maintenance and operation of Kavoor material waste units.
Mangaluru City Municipal Corporation (MCC) has not been driving the vehicles for the past 10 days in the sewerage system and the contractors said that the problems arose in the wake of outsourcing staff to MSEZ, on strike.
