Mangaluru: The menace of stray dogs in City has been on the rise for quite sometime now and the City Corporation does not know how many stray dogs are there in the City. In view of this, the Mangaluru City Corporation has decided to conduct a dog survey in the City.

There have been complaints in the public domain that stray dog menace is on the rise in many parts of the City. Stray dogs have been spotted in groups in different parts of the City including Vamanjoor, Kadri, Kottara, Surathkal, Daddalakadu, Mannagudde, Urva and other places. The Corporation does not have a price calculation. Though there are instructions that a survey of the streets should be conducted every year, the corporation has not conducted this survey in recent times. For the same reason, a survey of stray dogs will be conducted in the City soon.

In five years, 8,549 dogs in the City have been sterilised with the aim of controlling stray dogs. The treatment is provided by the Animal Care Trust, Shakthinagara. Stray dogs roaming around the City are caught using a net. It will be then be taken to Animal Care, Sakthinagar, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the City Corporation.
