Mangaluru: MESCOM has submitted a proposal to increase the unit price by Rs 1.38 for the year 2023-24.

The proposal has already been sent by the Mescom to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). Any objections to the same may be made to the City’s KERC or MESCOM Central Office.

According to MESOM, it spends Rs. 9.93 on each unit. Consumers are currently charged Rs. 7.95 for every unit. This indicates a shortfall of Rs. 1.38. MESCOM, therefore, believes that a price hike is inevitable.

Currently, L T-2 connections in urban areas cost Rs. 100 per KW. It has been proposed by MESCOM to raise this to Rs. 150. Beyond 50 KW, there would be an extra price of Rs. 175 (Rs 160 is the current charge) and Rs. 110 for every additional KW (the existing charge is Rs. 100). It was previously stated that Rs. 37 will be refunded for every unit.
