Mangaluru: City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar denied claims that the accused in the murder of Mohammed Fazil are receiving special treatment. “They are being dealt according to the law.  They receive no special treatment,” he clarified.

The police officer said that he is unclear of the reason behind some of the community leaders’ claims that the accused receive special treatment. “I went to the Surathkal Police Station personally. The accused do not get any special treatment,” he added.

He said that on Monday August 8 he visited Fazil’s home. “My phone number and the numbers of senior officials have been given to the family members. They can get in touch with us directly if they have any doubts,” he added.

Police have so far detained seven people in connection with Fazil’s murder. They are currently being interrogated by police. It has been found that the accused used two vehicles, one of which has been seized. Shashi Kumar added that efforts are being made to ascertain the other’s whereabouts.
