Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, a thief broke open the lock of a house and stole cash worth lakhs of rupees at Ira under Bantwal Rural Police Station limits.

A total of Rs 3,11,550 worth of gold ornaments were stolen, including a 10-gram earring, three rings weighing 8 grams, a coral chain weighing 20 grams, a chain weighing 35 grams and two handbags weighing 20 grams kept in a small plastic box.

Rohini, the owner of the house, has lodged a complaint with the Rural Police alleging that she did it during the day when no one was at home.

Rohini and her husband lock the house and go to work as labourers.
