Mangaluru: A five-day workshop organised by the Mangalore University library on ‘Transformation of the Libraries for NEP 2020’ was inaugurated at M. N. Vishwanathaiah Hall of the varsity on Monday August 8.
In his inaugural speech, University of Mysore Former Vice Chancellor Prof. V. G. Talawar highlighted the importance of NEP, where stress is given to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies and research. He also enlightened the librarians on “online databases and open sources electronic resources in promotion of research and academic articles,” which can be a hub of knowledge for research and academic activities.
Guest of Honour, Mangalore University Library University Librarian (Retired) Dr. M. K. Bhandi enlightened the new tools, technologies and skills on handling the library resources.
In his presidential address, Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya opined that the role of librarians is crucial in the success of NEP-2020, as they act like a bridge in dissemination of information. He also pointed out that Mangalore University is a frontrunner in the State in modernising the library.
Mangalore University Library Librarian Dr. Purushothama Gowda M. welcomed the gathering and explained the role of libraries in promoting NEP. Dr. Preethi Keerthi D’Souza mastered the ceremony, while Sumangala K. S. extended the vote of thanks. 120 Library professional enrolled for the workshop.
