Mangaluru: Speculations about a family trying to commit suicide were dismissed by the police. It was food poisoning that had been reported as a suicide attempt, informed the police.

Aravind Rao (52), Prabhavati (45), Sourabh (20) and Prateek (18) of Jeppu Bappal were found vomiting heavily in their home. To get the family members out of the house, the relatives had to break the door. They were admitted to the ICU since their condition was critical. It was suspected that the poisoning had been done on purpose.

Soon, rumours that the family had tried a mass suicide began to spread. “The family suffered from a severe case of food poisoning,” said City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar. He clarified the speculations that the four members of the family had eaten ice cream and a lentil dessert that may have gone bad.
