Mangaluru: Two-day Kanaka Sahitya Sammelana concludes

Mangaluru: ‘Kanaka Sahitya Sammelana’ was held at Mangalore University from Friday July 22. Its valedictory was held on Saturday July 23 at Mangala Auditorium of Mangalore University in association with Kanakadasa Research Centre of Mangalore University and National Centre for The Study and Research of Santakavi Kanakadasa, Bengaluru.

On Saturday July 23, the day of valedictory at Kanaka Kavighoshti, Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj presided over. He said, “the way of poetry is to summarise briefly. The language of Kanaka, who is a great poet has written many such great poems, which is worth learning for poets. Like Kanakadasa, there should be a study of the poems of acharyas and men of the Navodaya too,” he added.

Senior Poets like Dr. Vasanthakumar Perla, Dr. Katyayini Kunjibettu, Udupi, Radhakrishna Uliyathadka of Kasaragod, T. A. N. Khandige of Moodabidri, and Dr. Sathyamangala Mahadeva of Bengaluru participated.

Dharawad Kanaka Vidyapeetha Coordinator C. Hanama Gowda presided over symposium on presentation of selected essays under seminar on Kanaka Sahitya.

Later, Dr. K. S. Pavithra, a dancer from Shivamogga delivered Sodaaharana lecture on Kanaka Sahityada Nritya Sadhyate.

The valedictory function was held in the evening. S. V. P. Institute of Kannada Studies, Mangaluru University Prof. Somanna Hongalli presided. He said, “Kanakadasa played an important role in sowing equality in the society.”

Hampi Institute of Kannada Studies, Retired Professor Prof. A. V. Navada delivered the valedictory address. In his valedictory address, he said that studies should be conducted on the language, literary and cultural aspects of the Bhajan literature including the entire Dasa literature comprising the keerthanas of Kanaka across places. Kanakadasa, who was an embodiment of philosophy and rationality, is relevant for all times, he added.

Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President M. P. Srinath participated as Chief Guest. He said, “it is not only on the day of Jayanti that Kanaka is remembered but Kanaka should be remembered again and again, he added.

Kanaka Cultural Festival

Cultural programmes such as Kanaka singing, commentary, arthanusandhana, gombeyata, yakshagana performance etc was held by various singers at the conference. This is the first literary conference on Kanakadasa. The aim of the conference is to convey the thoughts of Kanakadasa to the youth. Scholars, artistes and a large number of students from the State participated in this conference. A large number of literary enthusiasts too participated at the event.

On July Friday 22, at the inaugural ceremony Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. S. Yadapadithaya presided over the function. M. Mohan Alva was the chief guest. Mangaluru University Registrar Dr. Kishore Kumar C. K., Kanakadasa Research Centre Bengaluru Coordinator M. R. Sathyanarayana, and Kanakadasa Research Centre Bengaluru Coordinator Dhananjaya Kumble were present.

At the conference named, Parampare Belakalli Kanaka, Vartamanada Kannadialli Kanaka. Dr. Vasanth Bharadwaj’s Kanaka Tarangini Mahakavya Chintana session was held in which Prof. Mallepuram G. Venkatesh, Bengaluru, Lakshmisha Tholpady, Puttur, M.R. Satyanarayana Shivamogga, Dr. Padekallu Vishnu Bhatta Udupi, Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bhardwaj, Prof. Shivaram Shetty, Mysuru, Prof. Nithyananda B. Shetty Tumakuru, Dr. Jyothi Shankar Mysuru, Dr. Shubha Maravanthe, Alagodu Shivakumar, Dr. Manjunath Belawadi and other scholars participated.
