Mangaluru: Village Accountant gets 4-year-jail for bribery

Mangaluru: A Court in City has sentenced a Village Accountant to four-year jail term for accepting bribe money.

S. Mahesh is the convicted. He was paid Rs. 60,000 to dispose of the illegal regularisation application of Gopalakrishna of Sullia Mandekol. While he demanded a bribe, he was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Mangaluru on June 7, 2016. He was found accepting Rs. 45,000 as bribe money.

The hearing was held at the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru. On Thursday March 2 the convict S. Mahesh was sentenced to four years in jail and fined Rs. 70,000.

If he fails to pay the fine, he will be sentenced to another eight months in jail.

Ravindra Munshipady, Special Public Prosecutor of the Karnataka Lokayukta, had argued on behalf of the Government.
