Mangaluru: On the occasion of Eve of Independence Day, a case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Manager of IndiGo airlines for creating panic through WhatsApp chatting at Mangaluru Airport. Both the 23-year-olds had earlier studied at a technological institute in Manipal and are said to be classmates. The boy had got a job as an engineer in a company in Vadodara, Gujarat and two days ago has come to Manipal and was returning via Mangaluru Airport on Sunday August 14. It is said that the girl was messaging him from afar at the airport.

In the middle of the conversation, the girl had texted that she was the bomber. A woman in the back seat who noticed the youth’s mobile chatting informed the flight crew, following which panicky airport staff and security personnel stopped and inspected the flight which was ready for take-off. The plane was taken to the old airport where it was allowed to fly with 186 onboard at 5.00 pm after a thorough inspection. However, the young woman was interrogated intensively by CISF security personnel and finally was handed over to the Bajpe police.

Bajpe Police has taken the girl into custody and are interrogating her. Though the girl had allegedly texted her for a joke, the police took it seriously. Both the young man and woman, both of whom are IIT-educated, and sending such messages on the occasion of Independence Day has led to tension.
