Manipal student gang rape: Stringent punishment to rapists, assures Home Minister

Udupi: State Home Minister KJ George has warned of stringent action against the rapists of the medical student of Manipal and assured that the department would not bow to pressure from any corner.

Speaking to press persons here on June 23, Sunday, the Minister said he has spoken to the parents of the victim and has assured all co-operation on behalf of the government. He exuded confidence that the rapists would be brought to book at the earliest.

Pratap Reddy, IGP Western Range, said so far no arrests have been made and added that all autorickshaws in the town are being checked. Security has also been stepped up in and around Manipal, he said.

SP Boralingaiah, District in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake, Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj were also present.


Minister  visits victim at Manipal Hospital

Udupi : Home Minister KJ George on June 23, Sunday visited Manipal Hospital and enquired the health of the gang rape victim. Manipal University Vice Chancellor HS Ballal said the Minister also spoke to the victim’s mother who said her daughter is in good health. He also said as directed by the police, security would be stepped up in Manipal University campus.
