Mangaluru: Three cheques issued by Manjunath Kharvi to the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Co-operative Fish Marketing Federation Ltd. bounced, resulting in a total debt of Rs 88 lakh. As a result, Kundapur police apprehended Manjunath Kharvi at his residence in Uppanda for failing to comply with the court’s order for repayment. He was subsequently presented before the 5th JMFC court judge on September 20.
Manjunath Kharvi was involved in buying fish from the company and had a commission entitlement based on the fish sales made to the federation. He issued three cheques to settle this commission, but these cheques bounced due to insufficient funds in his account when presented to the bank. Despite receiving a notice regarding the unpaid dues, he did not fulfill the payments. Consequently, a private complaint was filed against him, leading to the initiation of three legal cases against him.
In three separate cases, the court has imposed fines totaling Rs 5 lakh, Rs 53 lakh, and Rs 30 lakh on the accused, amounting to a total of Rs 88 lakh. The court had previously ruled that these payments should be made as part of its judgment. Advocates Raghavendra Rao and Gowri Shenoy, representing the complainants, presented arguments on their behalf during the legal proceedings.
