Mangaluru: National Lok Adalat will be held on June 25, as part of which citizens of the District will be given the opportunity to seek immediate relief in their pre-litigation and pending cases in court, said the Principal District and Sessions Judge and District Legal Services Authority Chairman Ravindra M. Joshi.

Speaking to mediapersons at Court Complex here on Friday May 27, he said that the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) will organise a Mega Lok Adalat on the fourth Saturday of June 25 in the courts of the District for the public to settle their pre-litigation cases. At the adalat both parties will be given proper guidance to reach a compromise, he said.

Cases that are mutually acceptable to both side helps maintain relationship and solve disputes. It also provides for settlement of cases which are not registered in the court through conciliation, and the fee paid to the court will be refunded if the cases are settled through conciliation. Particularly, a compromise can be reached only if the solution suggested by the interlocutor is agreed upon. An opportunity has been provided for an early decision at a lower cost, he added.

There are 52,238 cases pending in the district, of which 4040 cases have so far been identified as cases that can be compromised, the number of which is likely to increase further. In the Lok Adalat, certain uncompromisable criminal cases, bank recovery cases, cases of restoration of employment, claims relating to wages of industrial workers, cases in the District Consumer Forum, cases relating to Karnataka Real Estate Authority, debt recovery tribunal cases, cases pending in permanent citizen court, cheque bounce cases, Motor Accident Compensation Tribunal cases, labour disputes, electricity and charges, land acquisition cases, service and pension cases related to salaries and allowances, and cases related to public utility services apart from civil, divorce, family and matrimonial court cases can be settled through conciliation in the Lok Adalat, he said.
