Mangaluru: Mangaluru South police have nabbed six men accused in the killing of 21-year-old Merlic D’Souza in the wee hours of December 25 at his residence in Gorigudde.

Nishak Poojary,(28), Vinesh Kumar (30), Praveen Poojary (42), all residents of Gorigudde and its surroundings, Sachin Shetty (22), resident of Mulihitlu, Ganesh Kulal (34), resident of Jeppina Mogaru, Sandeep Shetty (33), resident of Jeppu Kutpadi were nabbed by the police in connection with the mid night murder.

Police also recovered the weapons used in the crime, 2 motor cycles and mobile handsets from the accused.

Old rivalry led to the murder, stated police. In May 2016, Merlic D’Souza and his associates had made a futile bid on the life of Sandeep Shetty at Marnamikatte. In order to avenge the earlier attack, Sandeep Shetty instigated the other five men to kill Merlic. Accordingly the accused hatched a plot and succeeded in killing Merlic at his residence located at 4th Cross, Gorigudde in the wee hours of morning on December 25.

A case was registered at Mangaluru South police station following the murder.

Accused Praveen Poojary has 2 murder cases pending against him while Vinesh Kumar has one. Sandeep Shetty has assault cases against him while Sachin is a hotel management student , revealed police.
