Mangaluru: Owing to Covid – 19 pandemic and scare induced by Omicron variant, domestic passenger number at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) decreased by 60 per cent in January. However, the airline industry has decided to launch more flights on routes where passenger demand is higher.

MIA has planned to offer new destinations beginning in March, including Pune and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Air India Express (AIE) will begin flying four direct flights from MIA to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, beginning in March. According to sources, this will be the longest flight from MIA, lasting five hours.

Meanwhile, IndiGo will begin flying to Dubai in April, replacing its present flight to Sharjah. IndiGo will resume its fifth daily flight between Mangaluru and Bengaluru in the domestic sector. This is a late-night flight that will be operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft. In addition, a new night flight will be added to the existing Hyderabad route.

IndiGo will begin four-times-weekly flights between Mangaluru and Pune from March 27. On Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, a nonstop midnight flight will be available. The airline is also planning to launch a flight to Tirupati.

In March, Air India Express has made changes to its Mangaluru to Kuwait flight schedule. It will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays, according to the new schedule posted on its official website. The Wednesday flight has been cancelled, and the flight schedule has been changed.
