Mangaluru: The ‘Udyami Aagu, Udyoga Needu’ (‘Be an Entrepreneur, Become an Employer’), a unique programme aimed at attracting youth to entrepreneurship and the Kaigarika Adalat (redressal of industrial issues) was inaugurated by Minister for Large and Medium Industries Minister Dr. Murugesh R. Nirani on Thursday May 12. The programme is organised by Karnataka Udyog Mitra, and Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka.

The objective of organising the programme in Mangaluru is to provide a platform for the youngsters to become successful entrepreneurs. The workshop provides an opportunity for the youth of Mangaluru to meet and interact with successful business leaders and entrepreneurs. The idea is to make them be job providers instead of job seekers.

The programme is a brainchild of Large and Medium Industries Minister, Dr. Murugesh R. Nirani, and is a beneficial platform for the budding entrepreneurs and professional students, who have completed ITI, engineering, and MBA. The unique entrepreneurship programme is being organised under the leadership of the Minister who believes in encouraging and empowering the youth to be self-reliant. The idea is to inspire the youth to take up entrepreneurship and create job opportunities rather than seek jobs elsewhere.

This programme is not limited to a day, but through the programme at least 50,000 students from 2 to 3 centres in every district. An online programme will be conducted for those students. About 40 to 50 hours of an online training programme will be held for the registered students from which selected 10,000 students will get hand-held support and 3 days of in-house training with experts like Wipro, Infosys, and other sectors of their interest. In the next phase, about 2000 interested students will be allotted mentors to guide them through their initiatives. In the final stages, the department would support them through the relevant schemes.

The ‘Udayami Aagu Udyama Needu’ programme was kick-started by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on October 11, 2021.

The entrepreneurship programme will be followed by the ‘Kaigarika Adalat’ (Industrial Court), which is a unique initiative to help industrialists and other stakeholders to resolve their grievances on spot chaired by Minister Nirani.

Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation Chairman Nithin Kumar, SCDCC Bank Chairman M. N. Rajendra Kumar, KIADB Chief Executive Officer Dr. N. Shivashankara and other senior officials were present.

Karnataka ranks first in the country in terms of FDI inflows

Speaking to mediapersons after the conference, Minister Nirani said, “Karnataka ranks first in the country in terms of FDI inflows. About 42% of the country’s investment has been in the State. The industrial zones will be further expanded in the coming days. For this, 30,000 acres of land will be acquired in Bengaluru and 20,000 acres in other districts.

If industries are found not being run on the land already acquired, the Government will reclaim such land, he said, and informed that Toyota’s factory at Bidadi is set to raise another Rs. 5,000 Crore for expansion, Exide, Rs. 6,000 Crore and Gold Flask Rs. 2500 Crore in Belagavi, he said.

Replying to a media query on the damage caused by pollution in Dakshina Kannada District due to industries, he said, “There have been some mistakes in the past. However, right now everything is being monitored by the Pollution Control Board,” he said.

Minister Nirani said ports, railway lines and highways would be developed by the private parties and the Government on the Private Public Partnership model.
