Puttur: A bridge construction undertaken by the Town Municipal Council on Bayambe-Shingani-Periyattodi Road near Kabaka had stopped midway two years ago, due to poor planning.
Local Congress MLA Shakuntala Shetty visited the spot and lent her ears to the woes of road users. They vented their ire against planners and alleged that the construction is done bypassing the actual road, rendering the entire project useless.
The adjacent hillock near the bridge under construction has made things even worse, leaving the road users high and dry, they complained. Locals alleged that more than Rs 10 Lakh of public money had been wasted for the bridge under construction and the authorities were now refusing to provide the financial details under the RTI act.
The MLA, after the inspection felt that had the bridge been constructed without bypassing the actual road many would have benefitted.
Shakunthla Shetty has ordered an inquiry headed by the Town Municipal Commissioner.
