Mother-son duo dies in ghastly road mishap in Karkala

Karkala: Mother and son died when the Nano car in which were travelling collided with a machine laden truck coming in the opposite direction near Lemila cross in Nitte on October 5.

Shalet D’Souza (45) and Winson D’Souza (20) are the deceased. They are the residents of Miyar.

The machine laden truck was heading towards Mangaluru where as the occupants in the car were heading towards Karkala after getting their Nano car serviced at an outlet in Mangaluru when the accident occurred.

Winson, a mechanical engineering graduate, recently secured job a Gujarat based company through campus selection where as his father Walter D’souza is the owner of Gloria oil mills in Jodukatte, Miyar. Other daughter of Walter D’souza is employed in a software company at Hyderbad.

The car was badly crushed in the accident and the traffic was blocked on the busy four lane highway for 45 minutes. According to road users and residents nearby,the absence of road dividers on the four lane road and poor planning of roads at sharp curves has resulted in multiple accidents in the recent past.

Karkala rural police registered the case and are investigating.

The relatives had problem when the bodies were moved to the Karkala hospital for Post mortem. The unavailability of doctors and poor coordination resulted in unforeseen delays at the hospital drawing ire from the public.
