Mangaluru: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, on Saturday honoured M Randhir, proprietor of Hotel Vardhaman at Yeyadi, on outskirts of the city.

The honour came in wake of Randhir’s yeoman service to people especially during the hard days after demonetisation was brought in.

Soon after demonetisation, when the people started facing difficulties to even buy daily necessary commodities due to shortage of cash, M Randhir had put up a board outside his hotel that food would be served free of cost to all till November 30. The customers can pay for the food if they have money, but those not having money could pay when they have currencies in hand.

While the humane act of the hotelier bagged lot of appreciation from all quarters, a news spread that Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had lauded the hotelier for his noble act in his November 27, 2016 edition of Mann Ki Baat. However, the news turned out to be false as the PM had spoken about a hotel in Maharashtra which had taken same step of feeding hungry people without charging them.

On Saturday, the hotelier small step towards supporting currency ban was recognised and appreciated by the MP in a form of felicitation.
