MU to host South Zone Inter-University Youth Fest from Jan 18

Mangaluru: Mangalore University will host a five day 31st South Zone Inter-University Youth Festival from January 18, in which 30 universities from South India will gather in MU.

Vice-Chancellor K. Byrappa told reporters here on Wednesday that the event would be inaugurated by Multi-lingual Cine star Prakash Rai in presence of Minister for Higher Education T B Jayachandra at 4 pm.

The highlight of the event will be a procession by the students, who will be wearing their own cultural attires. The procession will commence from Sheik Ali Road at 3 p.m. and wind up at the Mangala auditorium, main venue of the festival. The procession too will be judged, he said.

The VC said that there would be 25 competitions on five stages which have been named after well known literary personalities of Kannada- Kota Shivarama Karantha, Kayyara Kinnanha Rai, Panje Mangesh Rao, Giribale and B M Idinabba.

The competitions would be held in categories such as music, dance, theatre, fine arts and literature.

Students’ Welfare Director P L Dharma said that the 30th youth festival was held at Tumkur University and Mangalore University had won the championship in South Zone Inter University Festivals at least seven times, and bagged the championship in the All-India Inter University Youth Festival last year.
