Mangaluru: The Union Ministry of Textiles has sponsored a National level handicrafts expo at Woodllands Hotel in association with Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited. This nine-day expo will be inaugurated on Friday, December 2 at the same venue.
As many as 100 master craftspersons from various states across the country will participate in the expo by displaying their exclusive and exquisite handicrafts and handcrafted textiles. Connoisseurs can purchase the skillfully produced artifacts handcrafted by artisans.
“Gandhi Shilp Bazaar”, the handicrafts exhibition and sale will feature stone carvings, palm leaf engraving and appliqué works from Orissa; carpets, tribal jewelry and lac craft from Bihar; woolen carpets and jute crafts from West Bengal; cane, bamboo and terracotta crafts from the North Eastern states; miniature paintings and papier mache from Rajasthan; embroidered shawls and papier mache from Jammu & Kasmir; pearl jewellery and crochet lace from Andhra Pradesh; Chole bronze, stone and wood carvings from Tamil Nadu; rosewood carvings and fibre based crafts from Kerala; sandalwood carvings and wood inlay from Karnataka and many more.
Addressing the media on Thursday, December 1, Jacob D’Souza, Assistant Director of Union Ministry of Textiles, said that this expo would be a feast for handicrafts aficionados as various crafts made of textile, wood, terracotta, metal and leather would be put up for sale.
The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar has been organised from December 2 to December 11 at Woodlands Hotel exhibition hall.
