Nehru Yuva Kendra organises Youth Parliament to mark Constitution Day

Mangaluru: An intercollegiate District Youth Parliament event was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangaluru under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in association with Centre for Integrated Learning and Lions Clubs International District 317D to mark the Constitution Day at Zilla Panchayat Auditorium here on Thursday, November 26 at the Nethravati Sabha Bhavan, DK Zilla Panchayat.

Over 60 students drawn from different colleges of the district, deliberated the Parliamentary proceedings raising various issues of social significance including COVID 19, Farmer’s Bill, New Education Policy, Drug Abuse among youth, women’s safety and other issues.

The day-long event was inaugurated by Dr Geethprakash Angarakody, Lions District 317D Governor. He stressed the need for young minds to involve in social activities so as to make a difference in society. He also spoke on the significance of the Indian Constitution and its role in maintaining peace and stability in the country. Chief guest on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Dr. Selvamani R IAS, symbolically paid floral tribute to the martyrs in uniform and the civilians who were the victims of the ghastly Mumbai attack on this day, 12 years ago.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Selvamani opined that the knowledge of Constitutional provisions, fundamental rights and our duties, are necessary for every citizen for strengthening the foundation of any country. Youth Parliament or any such activities enables college students to understand its significance. Selvamani administered the Constitution Day Oath to mark the occasion.

The inaugural session was presided over by District Youth Coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangaluru, Raghuveer Souterpet. The District Coordinator for Youth Empowerment of Lions District Ln Vijaya Vishnu Mayya presented the introductory remark. The session was compered by Meghan and Jaseem of St Aloysius College. Executive Director of Centre for Integrated Learning, Mrs Sachitha Nandagopal welcomed the gathering. The event was co-sponsored by Lions Club Mangalore and Leo District 317D, Youth Camp, Exchange and Empowerment wing of Lions District.
