News Karnataka Shares Success Story at FICCI Session

Pune: News Karnataka, a leading media publication, showcased its success story at the FICCI Session on “Empowering Publishers with Indic Internet and Empowering India” held in Pune on February 22nd. Brijesh Gokhale, the Executive Director of News Karnataka, took the stage to share insights into how the Google News Initiative’s Indian Languages Program has catalyzed digital transformation within the publishing industry. The program, aimed at leveraging the multilingual internet, has empowered publishers by fostering digital inclusion and innovation.

The 90-minute workshop, dedicated to closing the digital gap in India’s diverse linguistic news landscape, focused on equipping publishers and content creators with the tools necessary to leverage the socio-economic capabilities of the Indic Internet. The workshop aimed to advance India’s digital inclusion by providing publishers with knowledge and tools to navigate the digital age effectively.

Key Objectives of the workshop included:

Harnessing Digital Potential: Equipping publishers with tools and knowledge to leverage the internet for effective content dissemination.
Indic Language Outreach: Exploring possibilities of using Indic languages for broader audience engagement.
Promoting Local Content: Learning strategies to amplify the reach of local content and stories.
Digital Literacy Contributions: Contributing to advancing digital literacy in India through hands-on sessions and case studies.

The workshop featured engaging discussions with industry and subject matter experts, real-world case studies for practical insights, hands-on sessions for immediate application of learnings, and networking opportunities.

The event commenced with opening remarks by Sandeep Nulkar, Co-Chair of the Multilingual Internet and Universal Acceptance Committee at FICCI. Swetha Elias, Program Manager at Google India, addressed the audience on the GNI Indian Languages Program, emphasizing modernizing digital ecosystems for publisher success. Abhishek Mathur, News Partner Manager at Google India, served as the session moderator.

Additionally, Manish Dhingra, Director and CEO of Mediology Software, Sugitha Sarangaraj, Digital Head of News7Tamil, and Binoti Shah, Head of Digital Initiatives at Gujarat Samachar, shared their success stories during the event.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Sarika Gulyani, Director of FICCI, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors for their valuable insights and contributions towards empowering publishers with Indic Internet and empowering India.

The FICCI Session served as a platform for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and driving digital transformation within the publishing industry, furthering India’s journey towards digital inclusion and innovation.
